What’s Driving eCommerce Sales in 2022 and How Does This Impact Brands?

Black Friday and Cyber Week online sales hit new records this year, but the headline performance and the reality are very different, here is why:

Adobe Analytics reported Black Friday online sales of $9.12B up from $8.92B in 2021, up 2.3% YoY. According to Salesforce, U.S. online sales on Black Friday rose 12.1% YoY to $15 billion in the U.S. and 3.5% to $65.3 billion globally. These sales numbers hit record highs during Cyber Week. Reality is that Brands we’re pressured on Amazon for a few reasons :

1. Approximately 5.7% decrease factoring in inflation. Increase of 2.3% didn’t compensate for Inflation that was up roughly 8%
2. Amazon fulfillment fees went up. Advertising was pressured and fulfillment fees went up by 5%, leading to more margin pressure.
3. Amazon brands were intensely promoted, and much of the increase in sales was due to Amazon brands.

Brands need to put in additional efforts to not further pressure price, as well as be aware of direct competitors and Amazon Brands.
