Better Selection? No. There are hundreds of millions of products well organized, nicely displayed, and with consumer reviews to choose from. Amazon has millions of sellers and Walmart is adding quickly.

Exclusive Offers? No. Amazon and Walmart offer many great incentives including access to Amazon Prime’s same day delivery options, streaming and entertainment through Prime Video and cash back on groceries. Walmart+ offers exclusive access to promotions, cash back on fuel, free delivery options as well as the ability to earn rewards on eligible items online and in store to use on future purchases. You can expect that Amazon Prime and Walmart+ will continue to add more features and value for members.

The bottom line is, the marketplaces that have succeeded were unique and solved a problem. Retailers such as Macy’s and Bed Bath & Beyond, looking to compete with Amazon and Walmart should look to differentiate themselves, versus adding a marketplace to compete directly.
